| After taking her degree in 1984, Monique Rus spent two and a half years as a legal adviser to the Municipal Port Authority of Rotterdam. In this capacity she took part in the Rhine Research Project intended to reduce the discharge of heavy metals into the rivers Rhine and Maas by chemical industries located upstream so as to improve the water quality in the Port of Rotterdam.
Monique joined the Bar in 1987, spending twelve and a half years in government practice in Rotterdam with Loeff & Van der Ploeg (later Loeff Claeys Verbeke, now Loyens Loeff). In addition to administrative law and environmental law, her areas of attention included real estate law and tenancy law.
She has been with Pels Rijcken since April 2000, advising and litigating in decision-making based on legislation such as the Spatial Planning Act, aviation legislation, the Environmental Management Act, the Nature Conservation Act, the Land Exploitation Act and the Expropriation Act.
She is involved in major infrastructure projects such as the Second Maasvlakte, decision-making for airfields, nature development in the Westerschelde estuary and urban and rural development projects. In addition Monique assists a number of central and local government bodies in expropriation projects for the construction of infrastructure as well as nature conservation areas and recreation areas. |
