Bert-Jan Houtzagers joined the Dutch bar in 1985 and has worked for Pels Rijcken ever since. He has acquired broad experience in the practice of law, ranging from corporate law to cassation proceedings and law of civil procedure. Since the mid-1990s, he has turned more and more to the field of government actions governed by private law. He has conducted many legal proceedings of great public interest on behalf of the State which revolved around an unlawful government act; he also acts for other clients but never against the State. He was appointed state advocate in 1999. As state advocate he is a generalist with specialised knowledge of public administration.
His ambition as a lawyer is always to realise the added value of enlisting an attorney: the client must gain from it. This demands a solid legal background in a broad field as well as great commitment and dedication. |
