Cees Verburg joined Pels Rijcken in 2019 and specializes in energy law. Cees has been involved in various cases in the energy sector, relating both to regulatory law as well as civil law. He advises national and multinational companies and public authorities in these cases.
Cees studied International and European Law at the University of Groningen and obtained an LL.M. degree in Public International Law from the University of Edinburgh. Before joining Pels Rijcken, Cees wrote a PhD-thesis (to be defended in January 2020) at the Groningen Centre of Energy Law of the University of Groningen. His thesis concerned investment promotion and protection, specifically under the Energy Charter Treaty, in the renewable energy sector. He has published various articles relating to energy law, international investment law and arbitration law in national and international law journals. Cees is a member of the Dutch Energy Law Association (NeVER) and the Dutch Arbitration Association (DAA).
