Derek Tersmette joined Pels Rijcken in 2016, and specialises in healthcare governed by public and private law. He deals with legal issues regarding healthcare quality, pharmaceutical law, medical disciplinary law and health insurance law. Innovation in healthcare is an important spearhead for Derek. He explores legal issues that arise when digital transformation and healthcare law come together.
Derek obtained his master’s degree in Law and Medicine from Leiden University. Between 2009 and 2011, he served as deputy secretary for the Medical Ethics Committee of the Leiden University Medical Centre and did his residency between 2013 and 2015 at hospitals in Leiden, The Hague and Rotterdam. Before transferring to the legal profession, Derek worked as a medical doctor at the emergency care centre in The Hague.
