Maryse Mesu-Abbekerk

Maryse Mesu-Abbekerk is a partner at and co-heads Pels Rijcken’s Real Estate department. As a litigator and adviser, she has more than 25 years of experience as a litigator and adviser in the area of real estate and tenancy law. Maryse’s primary is on tenancy law, advising on and preparing contracts for the sale and purchase of real estate portfolios, project development, area development, disputes about real estate transactions, real estate management, renovation, leasehold and apartment rights. She also regularly advises on healthcare real estate. Her client portfolio is diverse. Maryse represents institutional investors such as pension funds and real estate funds, project developers, commercial tenants and landlords, property managers, healthcare institutions, owners' association, housing corporations, the Dutch government, local authorities and semi-governmental bodies. She is frequently called upon to provide a second opinion.

Maryse graduated from Leiden University with a master’s degree in Dutch Civil Law and Business Law. She completed the specialist programme of the Dutch Association of Landlord and Tenant Law Practitioners (Vereniging van Huurrecht Advocaten) and the postgraduate professional training programme for NMI/MfN-registered mediators. She lectures regularly on tenancy law at various educational establishments. As a lecturer, she is also involved in the "Women Leadership Programme" of the OSR for coaching and training women lawyers who aspire to become partner. Maryse regularly organises seminars to keep her clients informed about current developments in real estate law.
