Niels Groenhart was sworn in as an attorney in 1996 and has worked for Pels Rijcken since 2020. He specialises in and deals with all aspects of privacy law, especially in the public domain, and police and judicial authorities, in particular. He advises ministries (and their departments), provinces, (large) municipalities, and regulatory authorities on the privacy law issues they encounter, for instance in the social domain, healthcare, police and judicial authorities, public order, social security, and profiling. He also litigates a variety of disputes with privacy law aspects.
Niels graduated from Utrecht University in 1995 with a major in private and criminal law practice. He previously worked at the College bescherming persoonsgegevens, the predecessor of the Dutch Data Protection Authority. Niels also served as a deputy judge for a number of years. In addition to the practice of law, Niels also publishes and lectures on privacy law.
